Cadmium Modulates Biofilm Formation by Staphylococcus epidermidis
The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of cadmium exposure on Staphylococcus epidermidis (ATCC 35984) biofilm formation. Bacteria were cultured in the absence or presence of different concentrations (0-50 µM) of cadmium. Biofilm formation and bacterial viability were assessed. Quantitative Real Time-PCR (qRT-PCR) was used to determine the mRNA expression of molecular markers of S. epid...
متن کاملDaptomycin rapidly penetrates a Staphylococcus epidermidis biofilm.
Fluorescently tagged daptomycin accessed the interior of Staphylococcus epidermidis biofilm cell clusters within minutes. The diffusion coefficient of daptomycin in the biofilm was 28% of its value in pure water. Daptomycin activity against staphylococci embedded in biofilms is unlikely to be limited by penetration of the antibiotic into the biofilm.
متن کاملPlasma can reduce Staphylococcus epidermidis biofilm formation on medical polymers
Medical polymers, such as urinary catheters are widely used biomaterials. One of the main problem for using the urinary catheters is biofilm formation on their surface, when they are used in a long time in the body. Virulence and pathogenicity of Staphylococcus epidermidis is often enhanced when growing as a biofilm. Many techniques have been presented to reduce the biofilm formation by surface...
متن کاملAgent Petri Nets Framework for Modeling Staphylococcus epidermidis Biofilm Formation
This Staphylococcus epidermidis has been discovered as the most frequent germ detected during indwelling medical devices infection. This fact is well attached with the ability of this bacterium to form structured layered population known as biofilm. Inside S. epidermidis biofilm, bacterial cells present more different behavior than in their planktonic counterpart. This paper describes the thriv...
